Robert Jordan, pseudonimo di James Oliver Rigney Jr., è stato un noto autore statunitense di romanzi fantasy. Nato il 17 ottobre 1948 a Charleston, in South Carolina, ha frequentato l’Accademia Militare di The Citadel, diplomandosi in fisica. Ha prestato servizio nell’esercito americano durante la guerra del Vietnam, esperienza che ha influenzato profondamente la sua scrittura.
Il genere principale di Jordan è il fantasy, in particolare il sotto-genere dell’alta fantasìa. Si è guadagnato la fama internazionale per la sua serie “La Ruota del Tempo”, una saga composta da 14 volumi che mescola elementi di mitologia orientale ed occidentale, e che si distingue per la sua complessità narrativa e la profondità dei suoi personaggi.
Oltre a “La Ruota del Tempo”, Jordan ha scritto diversi romanzi di successo sotto vari pseudonimi. Come “Reagan O’Neal”, ha creato la trilogia storica “Fallon”, e come “Jackson O’Reilly” ha scritto romanzi western. Ha inoltre contribuito alla serie “Conan il Barbaro”, creando nuove avventure per il famoso personaggio di Robert E. Howard.
